Polara Ultimate Straight XS Self Correcting 3 Piece Golf Balls (1 Dozen)

Product Description

Featuring a soft ionomer cover material that generates higher spin for better stopping power on the green, the 3-piece Ultimate Straight XS is Polara's high-performance golf ball. One layer beneath the cover is its boundary layer material called DuPont HPF that produces lower driver spin and longer distance. At its core is a soft, resilient polybutadiene core for better feel. The shallow dimples lower lift and establish preferred spin axis, the small dimples provide slice and hook correction and the deep dimples lower drag and enhance weight distribution.
To correct hooks and slices, simply point the side stamp arrow at your target. (When the arrow doesn't point at your target, it'll react like a regular ball.) To boost distance with your driver, tee the ball up high and use a driver with a loft of 10.5 degrees or more. To bust your irons, point the arrow toward your target. Polara says you'll gain up to 20 yards. For extra bite on the greens, align the arrow so that it's perpendicular to your target.

    The Polara Story
Two scientists, Daniel Nepela and Fred Holmstrom developed the original Polara golf ball. The Polara's dimple pattern was unique, having six rows of normal dimples on its equator, but very shallow dimples elsewhere. The asymmetrical dimple pattern was a breakthrough in aerodynamic design that helped the ball self-adjust its spin-axis during the flight and thus enabled the ball to correct slices and hooks in flight. The original Polara patent was filed Oct 2, 1972 and it issued June 25, 1974.

The Polara golf ball was first produced in 1975 by PGA/Victor, with sales starting in 1977. Because the Polara actually corrected hooks and slices it posted strong sales in its first year. However, after extensive testing, the USGA concluded that the Polara golf ball did correct hooks and slices and thus refused to approve the ball for tournament play, ruling that it wouldreduce the skill required to play golf. In 1978, the manufacturers sued the USGA on antitrust grounds.

As litigation wound its ways through the courts the USGA changed the 300 year old Rules of Golf by inserting the Symmetry Rule in 1981, requiring that a ball must essentially perform the same regardless of where on the ball's surface it is struck or how it is placed on the tee. The new USGA rule banned Polara golf balls from USGA sanctioned tournament play. Then in 1985 the USGA agreed to a settlement of $1.4M and the Polara ball was removed from the market, becoming a part of golf history.

In 2005 Pounce Sports purchased the rights to the original Polara golf ball and reintroduced it on a small scale. In 2009 Aero-X Golf, Inc. acquired the Polara technology. After extensive research and development, Aero-X Golf determined exactly how and why the original Polara ball corrected hooks and slices. With this understanding Aero-X Golf, Inc was able to improve upon the original Polara design.

In August 2010 Aero-X Golf, Inc introduced two new and improved Polara golf balls with Self-Correcting Technology: The Polara Ultimate Straight 2-piece ball and the Polara Ultimate Straight XS 3-piece ball. Polara Golf uses the best available technology to create demonstrably better products that are not limited by anything other than the laws of physics. All of the Polara golf balls are designed for recreational golfers who want to take advantage of these technology improvements and enjoy the game more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely works!, June 14, 2011

First, I will never make any money playing golf, so I don't care one bit whether this ball conforms to any rules or not. I'm out to have fun once a week or so, and this golf ball helps me spend more time on the fairways and less time looking for balls out of bounds or in the rough. It only takes losing a couple dozen ProV1x's to realize that an expensive golf ball does not make you a better golfer.

I have played (3) games with the Polara, and as it states, it helps correct hooks/slices. In my case it is a wicked slice, and when I connect well with the ball it travels much further than if I was hitting a conventional golf ball with a poor swing.

One very notable difference in my game is on my second shot off the fairway with a 3 or 5 wood. The ball travels much, much further than it normally would. I also do not realign the ball as it states to do by pointing the arrow towards the flag. The ball just seems to straighten itself out after being struck... Read more

This ball will not completely correct your slice, but it can help. Just like any ball or training device, you have to meet it half way and have SOME skill. What I mean is if you shoot 110, don't expect this ball to get you into the 90's after one or two uses. It takes some getting use to, and don't forget to reposition the ball in the fairway with the arrows pointing towards your shot target or else you'll end up with a wild shot. It's good when you're playing by yourself or with a close buddy who won't fuss at you when you touch the ball after every shot. Also, I don't like the way it putts, so I replace the Polara with a Titleist or Callaway on the green. These balls are rather pricey and for the money, you may be better off trying the Top Flite XL 7000 Super Straight.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Impressed!, July 9, 2011

I love to golf and I'm really bad. I have the one of the worst slices I've ever seen. I'll aim well into the trees on the left and still take my second shot from the next fairway on the right. I tried these for the first time and was quite impressed. I easily hit the straightest drives of my life. It did not fix any of my other problems. I still pushed the shot right when I was misalligned and I sculled a few shots. But, when I connected well, my shots went straight instead of making a 90 degree turn to the right. Even with the loss of distance, I had much more fun hitting from my own fairway (or short rough) than I've had in the past apologizing to the foursome in the next fairway I just interrupted or hunting for my ball in the thickest rough. If you have skills or are serious about your game, this is not the ball for you. But, if you're a weekend hack like me, this ball makes your day much more enjoyable.
